Executive Chef Phillip Liesenfeld

Chef Phil Liesenfeld is the executive chef at Marcella’s Ristorante, Pizzeria and Wine Bar in the LoHi neighborhood of Denver, Colo.

Liesenfeld has been cooking for more than 20 years, and has been working in the industry since high school. He received a Bachelor of Science in hotel and restaurant management from The Ohio State University and has been cooking ever since.

He started his career with Cameron Mitchell Restaurants (CMR) working at Mitchell’s Ocean Club in Columbus in 1999. After four years, he decided to move out west to explore a new area of the country, working at various resorts, including PlumpJack Resorts in Tahoe, Calif. and Eldorado Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada. In 2015, Liesenfeld moved back to Columbus to rejoin the CMR team, working as a cook at The Pearl. Just two months later he was promoted to Sous Chef at Martini, and he then joined the opening team at Marcella’s Denver as the new restaurant’s Sous Chef. He recently became executive chef at Marcella’s Denver in January 2018. Altogether, Liesenfeld has worked with Cameron Mitchell Restaurants for 7 years.

Liesenfeld’s advice for aspiring chefs is, “Train with chefs whose food you enjoy the most and never stop reading.”

Growing up, Liesenfeld would cook with his grandmother and older sister. He enjoys cooking with seasonal, fresh ingredients. In his spare time, Liesenfeld enjoys hiking, playing ping-pong and traveling.
